Savita Harjani is a retired lawyer who is exploring her passion for writing in the third act of her life. Born and raised in India, Savita moved to the United States as a twenty-year-old. In her fifties, Savita found herself back in her country of birth taking care of her ailing and aging mother. At the time of her move to the United States, her parents were still young and vibrant, yet Savita knew that a day would come when time and age would make them vulnerable. Even though Savita had been anticipating it, the role of a caregiver snuck up on her, and she found herself becoming her grandmother—her mother’s mother. Postcards from Within captures the meanderings of this introspective journey. These musings explore her own vulnerabilities as a human being and ask some fundamental questions of life. Savita believes that to care for someone who gives one life is indeed a great privilege. As she traversed this path, Savita experienced love, inspiration, support, laughter, separation, pain, grief, loss, guilt, fatigue, helplessness, and anger—to name just a few of the myriad emotions. Even though this journey was uniquely hers, Savita is convinced that the fundamentals of her story are not; rather, they are experienced by much of humanity. Savita finds solace and support from the many untold stories of her fellow humans who are each on their own similar, yet unique, quests.
